How Skin Care Specialist Ashley Lee preps for her Wedding Day glow!

Who better than a facialist to tell you exactly how to prepare for your wedding day to get that bridal glow everyone covets? Ashley Lee is an Esthetician at Eleanor Steele Day Spa, and she has been practicing esthetics for just over two years.

JRB: In depth, What was your skin care routine leading up to your wedding day?

As someone who has struggled with hormonal acne caused by birth control, I really focused my skin care routine on balancing and restoring my skin in the couple months leading up to the wedding. I had eliminated the main cause of my acne but had a lot of healing to do. 

My skin care routine includes mostly all products from Laurel Whole Plant Organics and my pantry/fridge. 

In the evenings, I cleanse with LWPO's Clarity Cleanser about twice a week, and the Oily/Combo Cleanser the rest [of the days]. I always make sure to take my time massaging in my cleanser and removing with a steamy cloth. Since I have drier skin, I mist with the Normal/Dry Elixir and massage in Laurel's Anti-inflammatory Serum while my skin is still damp. Then I would finish with lymph stimulating massage, like Gua-Sha, or Jade Rolling

In the mornings, I often just rinse and steam my skin with a warm cloth before applying my elixir and serum. A lot of times with acne a 'less is more' approach is best.

About 3 - 4 times a week, I do a raw honey mask after cleansing at night. I simply apply a thin layer of raw honey (either local or Manuka) and leave on for 30 minutes. Sometimes I mix in a tiny bit of Redmond Real Salt too. Before removing I like to steam with a warm cloth, and massage the mask into my skin. 

1-2 times a week, I would apply a mask that varied based on how my skin felt that week. My favorites are LWPO'S Almond Grain, Gentle Mask, and Brightening Mask. 

The biggest thing I did for my skin was make sure I drank LOTS of water EVERY day!

JRB: How did jade rolling specifically help your skin prior to/ on the morning of the wedding?

I tend to clench my jaw when I am stressed. This not only causes a sore jaw, but the muscle tension can cut off lymph circulation - causing breakouts (eek!) Jade rolling helped to release my muscle tension and increase the circulation in my skin. I also love using it around my eyes to diminish puffiness. Wedding planning can be rough on the skin but jade rolling regularly helped keep breakouts and puffiness at bay. 

JRB: What are your favorite go-to products to save any make up emergencies/ mishaps on the wedding day?

Thankfully I didn't have any makeup mishaps on my wedding day. But I did make sure I had my rose hydrosol, before and after sun body oil, and lavender lip balm handy for refreshing and preventing any redness from too much sun. We got married outside on a beautiful sunny day and no one wants to be a sunburnt bride! 

JRB: Did you do your own makeup for your wedding day or have it done?

Being a bridal makeup artist I decided to do my own makeup for the wedding. It was a nice way to have some quiet time before all the hustle and bustle began. 

JRB: How many days before a special event should someone get a facial to achieve their best glow?

I recommend scheduling a facial about a week before a special event. If you have any congestion under your skin maybe even farther in advance so you don't have anything coming to the surface close to your big day. 

JRB: Any tips for our readers to improve their every day glow?  

Remember that our bodies are one system made of many parts. If one part isn't functioning at its best, it will affect the rest of the system. Pay attention to what you are putting in your system, avoid too much sugar, alcohol, and processed foods, DRINK LOTS OF WATER! I can't stress that enough. Take time each week for yourself to relax from the stress of everyday life. Make sure you are using products on your skin that will support and nourish it with clean plant based ingredients. Lastly, don't forget about your jade roller!"
